My Journey
I was a chronic people-pleaser who was slowly but surely being buried under the roles and responsibilities of marriage, motherhood, career, and family. I felt lost, hidden and misunderstood. I missed the person I was, and longed for who I knew I could be.
Then, one October morning in 2011, I abruptly quit teaching. That fateful day was the beginning of my decluttering journey. In the days that followed, I tidied my house; putting systems and routines back in place. Clearing the physical clutter created the mental and emotional space I needed to be more present for my then newly turned teenaged daughter, confront my struggling marriage, face my declining health, and unravel oppressive beliefs.
I’ve been at it ever since. It’s been a hard, but rewarding road. I’ve found me, and I’m not letting her go. And that’s what I want for you.
The teacher and encourager in me cannot help but share the lessons learned along the way. That passion is what fueled my book, Home on Purpose. It inspires what I write about on this blog and in my newsletter, Simple Things Digest
My Background
Sharon Hines is a simple living blogger and best selling author. As a girl, she’d hole up in her bedroom, novel in hand, to escape the hot, Texas afternoons. Enthralled with the way authors used words to transport readers to new towns and paint vivid pictures of characters, she decided she wanted to do that, too.
During her teaching career she discovered a love and natural talent for classroom organization. She continued to hone those skills in her own home where her love of organizing and decorating turned into a passion.
After eighteen years in the classroom, Sharon retired from teaching to pursue her dreams. She founded her blog in 2011 and in 2015, she published her first book. She began offering professional organizing services in 2016.
In 2024, her journey to simplicity, ease, and authenticity led her to pivot once again. Now she is focused on encouraging, inspiring, and teaching through her blog, personal essays, and a memoir that is in progress.
