I’ve noticed an inner shift with the start of Fall. It’s like the anticipating of cooler, crisp air is inviting me to enter into frivolity and calling me to nest all at the same time.
I’m actually surprised at how much I’m looking forward to the Fall season since I usually struggle to let Summer go. But, realizing the fun I’d reserved for Summer can follow me into Fall seems to have given me permission to expand my horizons. Which I fully intend to do.
19 Simply Fun Ways to Enjoy Fall
Notice the softness of long sleeves against your skin. Even if it’s just a soft long sleeve t-shirt which is what I wear when I can get away with it in this heat.
Sink into the warmth and comfort of a cozy sweater. I’ve got a black cashmere sweater and a white Loft sweater I bought from Thred Up last year that I can’t wait to wear.
Sip a warm beverage, even better do it with friend. My favorite warm drink is an Earl Gray Latte a.k.a. London Fog. So yummy.
Sit outside during the cool mornings with your warm drink in hand.
Set up a hot beverage station in your kitchen or breakfast room.
Watch the leaves change (Even here where it’s still in the 90’s, the leaves are fading. And some are just plain burned up from the scorching heat, but a girl can pretend.)
Go on a fall foliage tour. Google fall foliage tours in your area or state to find places to go. Unless of course, you live where you can see it just by opening your door. Apparently New England offers Fall Foliage Train Tours. That sounds like a lot of fun! For my fellow Texans, here are 8 Best Texas Parks to Visit for Fall Foliage. Timing is key in Texas with our super short Autumns.
Take advantage of the cooler weather to go on a bike ride. Even better, take a picnic with you. I told Matt I want to dust off our bikes and air up the tires this year. Use ’em or lose ’em.
Visit a pumpkin patch. I’m looking forward to the pumpkin patch my church hosts every year. It’s a fun way to spend an afternoon.
Go apple picking. This sounds so idyllic to me, but based on my Google search, it’ll have to wait. Looks like apple picking is next to nothing in Texas. That’s okay. There’s still plenty of other ways to enjoy Fall.
Experiment with in season fruits and vegetables. In my imaginary life, I’m an avid farmer’s market goer. And, I gather fruits and vegetables and fresh eggs and seasonal flowers in my farmer’s market bag wearing a fashionable farmer’s market outfit. The dream stops there, so I don’t know what I do with all those farm fresh groceries. It’s high time I make that daydream a reality. There are plenty of farmer’s markets to choose from around here. I can say I’ve tried my hand at cooking spaghetti squash, and one time I made what I called a Farmer’s Market chopped salad. I realize now that I didn’t know what I chopped salad was, so it’s not really a chopped salad. Maybe I’ll do some experimenting again this Fall.
Diffuse spicy oil blends. (Or burn candles. I do both.) I’m not very creative with diffuser blends, so I always search Pinterest. My favorite candle is the Vanilla & Sandalwood one from Grove.co. It smells really good, and I like that is soy and has a lead free wick. In fact, I keep it on my monthly order so I never run out.
Breathe in the crisp, cool air. There is nothing more grounding and soothing than deep breathing. Breathe in as deep as you can, then slowly let out your breath. Do that about three times, and you’ll feel so alive.
Open the windows in your house. I think this might be what I’m looking forward to most. It’s such a peaceful easy feeling, like beckoning a simpler time in life.
Drive with the windows down or sunroof open. I do this every chance I get. Something about it appeals to my nature-loving soul. Letting the outdoors in and having the wind blow through my hair feels like such an authentic expression of who I am. Life doesn’t get any better than that.
Play with fall fashion. I’m participating in the Fall 2019 Capsule Wardrobe Style Challenge again this year. I can’t wear the outfits as suggested just yet, so I’m having fun adapting them to the warmer weather.
Try a new lip color or nail color. I’m fixin’ to break out my red lipstick!
Decorate for Fall. I don’t like to store seasonal decor. Instead, I add in Fall color with throw pillows and use heavier textured blankets.
Craft. Fall seems like a good time for crafting. I’m not a crafter, but I do enjoy photography, gardening, organizing and decorating. So, I plan to dust off my potting bench and create an area for potting Fall plants. I’d like to organize my garage and a few closets, too. And, I want to figure out where to add more blue to my living room, a challenge I’m looking forward to. The important thing is to make room for hobbies.
I hope sharing my list of fun ways to enjoy Fall has inspired you to make one of your own. I know the list writing process helped me bring ideas to life and made them feel more tangible, or possible. The next step is picking activities from the list and making plans. That process is where the transformation happens. You’re suddenly accountable. Not only that, it’s like you’ve given yourself permission to play.
