The kitchen that once expressed my style, now felt like a dark cave in the middle of my house. A cave I had no interest in spending time in. So we ate out. A lot. The more we ate out, the more careless I got with my food choices. Inflammation and flare ups returned, resulting in gaining the weight I’d worked so hard to lose. It was like I was withering from within and losing my sense of self; my self-worth, self-expression…
The Power of Self-Expression
Sometimes it Requires Help
Fortunately, the finances to take on a remodeling project fell into place, and I got to work scheduling painters, picking out tile, and placing an order for wood floors.
I could feel my mindset and mood shifting to match the fresh white paint.
My heart burst with joy at the sight of the simple subway tile backsplash I’d always wanted.
I felt like I was embarking on new, yet familiar territory as I my bare feet felt the solid, new wood floors underneath me.
This kitchen finally looked and felt like my kitchen. It was like I was looking at my own reflection. This was the self-expression I’d longed for. Friend, I cannot explain the transforming power of self-expression. On second thought, yes I can.
Self-expression is the voice of your soul.
It bubbles up as praise. It emboldens you when it’s time to speak up. Being able to express yourself helps you live into your full identity. It gives you permission to take your place in this world. Ultimately, self-expression is a very necessary vehicle in sharing your story.
It Calls You to Rise Up
That’s how my kitchen makes me feel! To my surprise, those feelings hold a crown above me, encouraging me to rise up to be the me I am created to be.
So, as soon as the dust settled, I planned a few meals and ordered groceries. I’ve been cooking (one of my favorite things to do) and eating at home. I feel so much lighter, happier and more energetic.
It’s like I’m coming to life again as I live in my kitchen.
That’s all a girl could ask for.
