There is an article called “Going Back to school: The 1970s vs. Today circulating on Facebook. It takes me back…right down to the corduroys, Toughskins, striped t-shirt and culottes. It was ‘fashion for less’ at its best.
I loved my avocado colored culottes with the matching gold-buttoned vest. I wore it with my striped t-shirt all the time.
While the looks have certainly changed over the years, I’m still very much a fashion conscious girl; creating fashionable looks for less.
You truly do not have to spend a lot of money to look fashionable. I recently put together 5 Fashionable looks by mixing and matching just a few pieces.
The key is to have a few basic pieces that you can mix and match to create several different looks.
This striped boyfriend tee with white jeans and sandals is a cute, casual look that would work well for the weekend.
Pair it with black pants and wedges or heels for a dressier look. The scarf and earrings take the look from “boyfriend” to bold.
Following Chelsea’s advice from one of our episodes of Style Secrets, I pulled the pant leg up just a bit.
Both pair of pants also work with this jacquard v-neck top.
I kept the jewelry simple for this shirt, but a long silver necklace would take the shirt from day to night.
The cut out on the back of this shirt makes it feel a little flirty and feminine…perfect for date night.
This pink polka dotted shirt is also a fun, feminine look.
I kept it light and bright with the white pants and a fun pair of sandals.
I have to say, I felt like a million bucks in all of these outfits. I have more fun, carry myself more confidently and am more productive when I take the time to dress for the day.
As our friend Diane used to say, “When you look good you feel good. And, when you feel good you do good.”
That’s what I call dressing for success.

All of these looks were created by mixing some older items with a few new ones that I ordered from Splender.com.
white boyfriend tee (new) – Old Navy
jacquard v-neck top(new) – Old Navy
black cuffed soft pants (new)- Old Navy
white skinny jeans – Anne Klein @ T.J Maxx
pink polka dot blouse (new)– New York & Co.
white sandals – Steve Madden @ Marshall’s
black flats – Mossimo for Target
black wedges – Merona Target brand
black and white infinity scarf – T.J. Maxx
silver and white hoop earrings – I don’t remember
silver band bracelet – gift
tennis bracelet – belonged to my grandmother
green earrings, gold layering necklace and silver necklace – Stella and Dot
coral earrings and necklace – gift
The new items were purchased through Splender.com. Even though they have several hundred stores to choose from, I stuck with the tried and true; places where I know my size without trying on the clothes.
I just selected those stores from the Splender site and shopped on their websites as I usually would; browsing the latest looks, finding sales, reading reviews, and mentally putting together outfits.
Not only were all of the clothes I purchased on sale, I earned cash back through Splender. They got a commission for sending me to Old Navy, ( And NY&C ) and in turn, Splender shared that commission with me in the form of cash back.
This has changed shopping for me!
I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

You look wonderful. Love all the outfits. I am pretty much a black and white wardrobe person, so these outfits would fit my style.

Thank you, Audrey. I don’t know what it is, but I have always been drawn to black and white. I do wear other colors, but always have black and white in my wardrobe.

Aw…I take that as quite the compliment. And, I wish I did, too. That would be so fun!
