In a recent interview, Karianne of Thistlewood Farms was asked how she knows when a room is finished. She answered,
“A room is finished when every corner of that room makes you smile. And there’s nothing else that you want to add.”
I knew exactly what she meant because I , too, smile in satisfaction at my house.
When I see big green wreaths with giant red bows, I’m transported in time to the back seat of my parent’s car, taking in all of the decorations from my view out of the window.
My heart swells with pride thinking about my daughter sitting in class, just five years old, winding a little bit of ribbon around the tree,
tucking in a few berries, hanging a couple of ornaments, then calling it done. I haven’t changed a thing about that perfect little tree in all these years.
And, I can’t help but feel fondness for Aunt Becky as I unpack this sweet puzzle she sent Hannah one year.
This box of vintage ornaments takes me back to Christmases spent at my Nonna’s house.
And, the christmas mantel keeps us cozy at night.
It is so satisfying knowing how much my family will enjoy this candy station.
Cookbooks and corks mixed with Christmas cookie cutters bring cheer and a sense of anticipation.
I get so excited about marshmallows in my hot chocolate.
The German candy tin brings back memories of my PawPaw. And every time I see the oranges, I think of that year we made pomander balls in my Brownie troop.
The dining room is a party waiting to happen.
And, I love a good party.
Setting out my nutcracker collection every year is like being reunited with old friends.
My favorite Santa ornament sits where I can enjoy him throughout the season.
Being surrounded by memories, coziness, and warm, fuzzy feelings…it’s simply Christmas.
And that makes me smile.
These Christmas Home Tours make me smile, too.
See you in class,
