I want clean. I just don’t do clean.
When I was still teaching, I had the luxury of having a cleaning lady come every two weeks.
The whole family loved coming home on cleaning day… the lemony smell wafted into the garage, welcoming us in before we even walked through the door.
Inside, the floors and sink were shiny. The countertops glistened. Everything looked and smelled so fresh. The house sparkled.
Now? Not so much. As evidenced by my meltdown earlier this week, cleaning is not my gift.
I can joke about it, but the fact of the matter is, that I notice. I notice the dust and the dirt. I notice the piles of laundry. I notice the carpet stains.
And it makes a difference in how I feel about my home.
That’s why I went on a mini cleaning spree the other day. I needed to unsee the grease and grime. I wanted my house to sparkle again. I needed my home to be clean.
So, I scrubbed the toilet and cleaned the tub, 409ed the stove top and wiped down the countertops.
I folded and put away laundry.
And, as I wiped away the crumbs and the grease and put away the piles, I noticed something. My house started to sparkle.
I wondered why in the world do I put off cleaning. That’s the best advice I can give you today; don’t put it off. The longer you do, the more overwhelming it becomes.
Whether you hire someone or do it yourself, you’ll end up loving the home you’re with.
Tomorrow, I’ll share some of my most popular cleaning tips. In the meantime, watch the video above to learn how to make a DIY granite cleaner.
See you in class,
