I had fun rearranging and playing with accent pieces and accessories last night. And the room looks good, but it’s missing a few important elements: pattern, sparkle, and a statement piece.
The easiest way to add pattern is with accent pillows, an inexpensive and versatile option. When I think sparkle, I think lighting, mirrors, shiny vases… and I have those things already. What the room needs is a mirror. The addition of a mirror will add dimension, sparkle and make a statement.
With all of this in mind, let’s look at the design board I just finished creating.
Starting with the furniture pieces which I already have, I added in the accessories. Not only do they bring in pattern, but I think the mix of paisley and stripes adds interest. That gorgeous mirror from Lamps Plus adds both sparkle and makes quite the statement. It will be featured on the accent wall in my living room.
On my immediate to-do list for this room:
~ivory curtains in a natural fabric, such as linen
~upholster coffee table in durable fabric to resemble a tufted ottoman.
~make or purchase pillows with pattern
~find horse head bookends for bookcase
~change out hardware on media console (dresser)
~paint accent wall? (trying decide whether to leave the color as is or not)
If I upholster the coffee table in that rich blue fabric, like I’ve had in mind, then I’m not sure what color the accent wall will be.
We currently have carpet in the living room. My plan is to eventually replace that with wood floors. Then I’d love to add an area rug like the one shown in the design board.
I’m very excited about this room makeover. I’ll be back with a reveal in a couple of weeks. Of course, I’ll plan to share the progress as I go along.
Have a wonderful weekend!
See you in class,
