Scene 1: Why purple?
Looking at the breakfast room window my daughter asked, “Mom, is that my sheet?” “Um, yes. It is. What do you think of the purple? Is it too dark?” I hesitated to ask.
“Why purple, Mom? What does it go with?”
“Nothing. I was just trying it out.”
Scene 2: Daughter exits for school and I’m left alone with my thoughts.
What am I thinking? I ask myself. Purple is too much. I want more of a burlap or linen color. Linen..sheet…I have a tan sheet set!
Scene 3: Curtain call
I stepped down from the ladder after clipping the sheet to the curtain rings. Should I turn it into a tier set or into two panels, I wondered?
Then I was struck with a vision of lovely, flowing panels on one window and a billowy roman valance on the other.
This called for my fabric shears and another sheet. The fitted sheet to be exact.
I cut the flat sheet in half as it hung from the curtain rod,
then searched In My Own Style for Diane’s tutorial for a no sew window treatment from a fitted sheet.
The soft tan wrinkles lend a casual air of the french countryside to the breakfast room. Just the look I was after.

WOW … that really made a difference in your breakfast area. Looks so much better. Good job. I have used sheets a lot, but never a fitted sheet.

Audrey, I am just so tickled at what a dramatic difference the curtains made. I was just going in the wrong direction before, with valances and cafe curtains. I love the new look!

Thank you, Cynthia. I am delighted at the difference the curtains made. Usually I over think decorating details, but this time, I just made a split decision….maybe I should do more of that. 😉
